MUSIC MINISTRY

Music plays an central part in the life of Zoar Lutheran Church. Hymns are chosen to enhance the worship and special music by choirs and congregational members add to the worshipful atmosphere.

Pastor Nick is assisted by five lay ministers. They are:

  • Paul Borgen
  • Jeanna Doversberger
  • Kris Doversberger
  • Pat Parker
  • Donna Pottratz

There are also several song leaders to assist the congregation in the singing of the hymns. If a hymn is new to the congregation, the song leader may teach the hymn at the opening of worship.

Two Sundays each month, the music is led by our Worship Team.  Musical accompaniment may include piano, drums, and/or flute and the music is more contemporary.  The team is made up of about 10 individuals.

Once or twice a month, September to May, one or more of the choirs/special groups take part in worship. Following is general information on each choir. If you are interested in taking part in one or more of the choirs, call Paula in the church office for specific details.

Congregational members are always encouraged to share their musical talents during worship, but this is especially true during the summer.  If you or a family member have musical talent or you know of someone who does and would be willing to share that talent in worship, watch for the sign up sheet in the narthex.  It is usually available by the end of May.

Adult Choir
The Adult Choir meets only seasonally.

Bell Choir
The Bell Choir is open to adults and youth in 6th grade and above, and it meets on Sunday evenings at 6:00 pm. The only skill requirement for Bell Choir members is that participants be able to count to six. Director JoAnn Rothi gives the assurance that if you can count, you can play bells.

Children's Choir
Brittany Aamodt is leading a Children's Choir that meets on Sundays at 12:30 p.m.  All children in Kindergarten through 5th grade are welcomed.  Brittany will lead the children in an hour-long sing-a-long.  Their work will culminate in the performance of a musical play.
