Our
Cemeteries
Zoar Lutheran Church owns two cemeteries in the Canby area.
Zoar Lutheran Cemetery - Barlow Road is at the corner of South Barlow Road and South Lone Elder Road between Canby and Aurora.
Zoar Lutheran Cemetery - Walnut Street is on South Walnut Street in the middle of the new Distilled Spirits Distribution Center.
Ground Breaking Near Zoar Lutheran Cemetery - Walnut Street
On April 16th, Pastor Michell and member of the Congregation were invited to the groundbreaking of the new Distilled Spirits Distribution Center being built by the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission here in Canby.
As strange as it sounds, a lot of old cemeteries that were "way out of town" 100+ years ago are now surrounded by industrial parks. The facility will surround our little cemetery on three sides, but the warehouse will help maintain shrubbery and parking.
We look forward to a long and positive relationship with our new neighbors!

Zoar Lutheran Cemetery - Walnut Street
Established 1892
In September of 1892, Zoar Lutheran Church was formed by several families, including the family of Even O. Hinderlie. Mr. Hinderlie donated an acre of land east of town for a chapel and cemetery for the new congregation. This remained our church home until 1911, but the cemetery is still part of the Zoar community.

Zoar Lutheran Cemetery - Barlow Road
In the early 1900s, two small Lutheran congregations, the Zion Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran in Barlow and the Bethlehem Scandinavian Lutheran Church in Yoder, purchased an acre of land south of Barlow for a cemetery. In April 1911, Zion consolidated with Zoar in Canby and Bethlehem joined in 1917, giving Zoar it's second Canby area cemetery.
