On Monday, May 4th, staff from Clackamas County Department of Human Services joined with members of the Zoar Sewing Circle for a potluck lunch at the church.
This semiannual event is an opportunity for staff to pick up the quilts and other items donated by the Sewing Circle and share stories about how these items impact women and children who are experiencing a variety of traumatic life experiences. The quilts are especially comforting for children in frightening or unfamiliar situations.
The donations this time included: 72 twin sized quilts, one baby sized quilt, over 50 personal hygiene kits, 12 stuffed animals, 50 pillowcases, and 72 blank cards for special occasions like birthdays.
On Sunday May3, the quilts were spread out across the sanctuary and received this blessing during the service:
Gracious God,
Source of all blessing and of every good gift,
we give you thanks for the work of our Sewing Circle members,
who have lovingly cut, pieced, sewn, and tied these beautiful quilts
Bless these faithful members of our circle,
and bless these quilts as they travel to their new homes.
May they bring warmth and comfort
to your dear children who receive them
for many days to come.
This we ask through the One who came to reveal your love
and to heal this broken and troubled world;
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Join Us! New Volunteers are Always Welcome!
